The beginning of forever is here and wedding planning has begun. Congratulations, but I want you to pump your brakes for one moment and read these easy mistakes that could make you lose money or your peace of mind. If you’ve started planning, you’re already aware of the amount of choices out there when it comes to wedding vendors. Here are some things to look out to make the right decision.
PREPARING A BUDGET ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE.
Planning a wedding is bottomless hole where money will continue to go into if discipline and price cap is not attached to each item. This is one of the most boring parts of wedding planning but it can make or mar a wedding. It is important that couples sit down and decide how much they are willing to spend and stick to that budget. When couples do not have a general budget broken down by vendors and categories, they can easily overspend on some vendors and be left with limited resources for others.
THINKING THAT CONTRACTS ARE NOT IMPORTANT.
If there is nothing this pandemic has taught us, it has taught us the importance of contracts and attention to each word written on paper. You might be eager to check things off your wedding to-do-list but you have exercise patience and go through the entire pages before signing those dotted lines. Be sure to read the entire contracts and ask for clarification where needed. Ask the vendor( any questions you may have)so you fully understand what you’re agreeing to before you sign and pay.
Also pay attention to the deposit and refund section.
OVERTHINKING EVERY DECISION
Hesitation is a common mistake that couples make. If you like someone’s work, trust your gut and save yourself some unnecessary stress. If you are hiring a wedding stylist or some other vendor you would like to have at your wedding, book them right away. Even if it feels early. Couples sometimes overwhelm themselves with so many options that the whole process becomes stressful and frustrating.
WAITING TO PLACE A HOLD ON SOMEONE YOU LIKE
You might like a particular wedding photographer in mind and you’re very sure you’d love to work with them on your wedding day- but you are not 100 percent ready to commit. It is advisable you ask that wedding vendor to hold your date for you while you shop more or do more research. If you don’t ask a vendor to hold your date, they may give it to another couple who is ready to book right away. If they don’t hold dates, then just know it wasn’t meant to be and move on to the next.
CHOOSING THE LEAST EXPENSIVE OPTION
I know weddings can be expensive, but booking your vendors solely based on price isn’t the best move to make. It’s always good to choose the highest quality vendor because they will be very professional and will have high standards. If your budget is a concern, create a scale of preference and decide what’s most important to you.
NOT HIRING A WEDDING PLANNER
I always say this, wedding planning is 70% admin work. Like emails, inquiries, scheduling venue visits, logistics, meetings, calendar invites. etc. Most couples have jobs that won’t give them enough time to do this all by themselves. Furthermore, hiring a wedding planner can save you so much time and energy, as it eliminates the guesswork and streamlines the wedding planning process. A wedding planner will get to know your goals, style, personality and budget and they will match you with the best vendors for you.
FORGETTING TO HAVE FUN: Wedding planning can be overwhelming and stressful at times. In anyway couples should always find time for fun in their wedding planning process. Wedding planning is a lot of work but don’t lose track of the reason for the celebration which is love!
